A core group of Oude Molen Eco Village rent paying tenants have over the past fifteen years been motivated by the belief that a true democracy or open society is only successful if citizens are proactive and realise as joint custodians with our elected leaders, we can ensure public resources and assets benefit as many local and neighbouring communities as is possible.
We have to date managed to prevent this public asset from being sold, becoming a private business park and currently challenged with it becoming incorporated into an exclusive corporate medical park.
Our future development proposal is an imaginative win-win solution to addressing multi-stakeholder interests, complements Provincial Government and the City’s objectives and vision and has the potential to be a flagship project that showcases collaboration, people centred development and is based on internationally recognised best practices.
We are not opposed to the Provincial Governments proposed medical park. We do however believe the:
- Oude Molen property has significant social, cultural, historical, recreational and educational value and this potential should be exploited for the benefit of as many communities in the region as is possible and with a more holistic development approach in terms of addressing socio-economic and environmental challenges produce a positive multiplier effect in the region
Our future development proposal has immense long-term benefits in terms of its potential to act as a catalyst for socio-economic and environmental development in the region and would ensure a unique destination and attract additional local and international tourism.
Our proposed future development for the Oude Molen property would undoubtedly add value to a medical park theme surrounding the Oude Molen property in terms of the numerous activities we are proposing on Oude Molen
